چکیده

The medullary vagal motor nuclei, the nucleus ambiguus (NA) and dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV), innervate the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. We conducted immunohistochemical analysis of expression of the androgen receptor (AR) and estrogen receptor α (ERα), in relation to innervation of the trachea and esophagus via vagal motor nuclei in mice. AR and ERα were expressed in the rostral NA and in part of the DMV. Tracing experiments using cholera toxin B subunit demonstrated that neurons of vagal motor nuclei that innervate the trachea and esophagus express AR and ERα. There was no difference in expression of sex steroid hormone receptors between trachea- and esophagus-innervating neurons. These results suggest that sex steroid hormones may act on vagal motor nuclei via their receptors, thereby regulating functions of the trachea and esophagus.

Neurotrophin and GDNF family ligand receptor expression in vagal sensory nerve subtypes innervating the adult guinea pig respiratory tract.

We combined retrograde tracing techniques with single-neuron RT-PCR to compare the expression of neurotrophic factor receptors in nodose vs. jugular vagal sensory neurons. The neurons were further categorized based on location of their terminals (tracheal or lungs) and based on expression of the ionotropic capsaicin receptor TRPV1. Consistent with functional studies, nearly all jugular neurons ...

Steroid hormone receptors, MIB-1, p53, and c-erb-B2 expression on breast cancer: Comparison of immunohistochemistry on cell block and fine needle aspiration and tissue sample, in northwest Iran

Background: Fine-needle aspiration of breast cancer often provides moderate cellular material that is representative of the tumors. These samples can be used not only for cytological diagnosis but also to obtain information on the prognosis and likely response to therapy by using immunohistochemical staining studies. Methods: We assessed the degree of correlation between prognostic biologic ma...

Prognostic Values of Estrogen and Progesterone Expression Receptors in Ovarian Papillary Serous Carcinoma

Background and Objectives: Presence of steroid hormone receptors (estrogen and progesterone) in the tumor tissues of various organs correlates with response to therapy and prognosis. Since their role in ovarian cancer is still controversial, in this study we investigated the expression and prognostic value of the estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in ovarian papillary ser...

Correlation of Hormone Receptor Expression with Histologic Parameters in Benign and Malignant Breast Tumors

Background and Objective: Breast cancer is the commonest cancer of Indian women. Estrogen and Progesterone expression is seen in benign breast lesions and in breast carcinoma associated with good prognostic parameters and it correlates well with response to hormone therapy. Although a lot of studies have been conducted in the past on hormone receptor expression in breast cancer and few have cor...

Chemical profile of vagal preganglionic motor cells innervating the airways in ferrets: the absence of noncholinergic neurons.

In ferrets, we investigated the presence of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), and markers for nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in preganglionic parasympathetic neurons innervating extrathoracic trachea and intrapulmonary airways. Cholera toxin beta-subunit, a retrograde axonal transganglionic tracer, was used to identify airway-related vagal preganglionic neurons...
